Indeed, Evan W. Smith Funeral Services is truly the most professional, caring, loving, and family-oriented organization to trust with the final wishes of your loved one. When you lose a loved one, it is very emotional, painful, and confusing. You’re thinking, how do I do this, who do I call, will I be able to make it without my loved one? However, working with Evan W. Smith Funeral Services from the transfer of Mom’s pre-arrangements to the burial ceremony was a very professional, caring, loving and comforting experience. Our initial consultation with Rev. Dr. Robinson was amazing. His first question was, “Tell me about your mother.” He listened attentively then clearly explained the process of transferring Mom’s final wishes, guiding us on picking the perfect casket (couch), attire, flowers, programs, and providing us a specific timeline to submit all documents. At the conclusion of our consultation, there was no doubt that Evan W. Smith Funeral Services was the perfect fit for our mother’s Celebration of Life Service. Moreover, I cannot express the feeling of joy we all felt at the private viewing when we saw our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. She looked absolutely beautiful! Our tears of sorrow were immediately overtaken with joy. Momma looked peaceful, victorious, and resting, “yes indeed”. Every night at bedtime, Momma would say, “I’m gonna get in this bed and get myself some good sleep, yes indeed”. Seeing her lying in her beautiful ivory and pink couch, dressed beautifully, make up, nails and jewelry perfectly in place - I had to say, “Yes Indeed”. Reflecting on the day of the service, I was very impressed by Dr. Robinson and his team standing on the church steps awaiting our arrival and greeting us with a smile. The organization of the EWFS greeters, and COVID checkers were warm and welcoming to our family and guests. The final goodbye ceremony will always be memorable as Dr. Robinson included and guided each of us during this special moment. He said, “Kisha cover your grandmother (take your time); Ginola tuck mom in nice and tight (take your time); Neena take mom’s glasses off and place them on at the top of her abdomen (take your time); Isaiah and Nate gently close the top (take your time); Tony come and seal your grandmother (take your time). There was no rush. Dr. Robinson kept reminding each of us that we were welcomed to “take our time”. I’ll never forget this experience. Then to see the young lady carefully wipe/dust Mom’s couch before the spray of flowers were gently placed on top of Mom’s couch, put a special smile on my face because Momma was very particular about her personal space being very neat and clean. To seal my family’s and the audiences’ approval of EWSFS, was the poem written by Xavier as he listened attentively to every song, scripture, reflections of Mom, and the final sermon “This is not a goodbye but a see you later”! And, the professional manner in which he guided the carrying of Momma to her “chosen” place of rest, beside her mother and father.

Mr. Norman Griffiths, Former President, Wilmington City Council

I cannot say enough how pleased we were that everything was kept within our wishes: Excellence, superior service, and matchless quality. It was also important that the cost given to us over the phone was the same when we arrived at the funeral home. Now, I will certainly give my support and recommend you to friends and family.
